WHAT IS CORETT?
The Regional Coalition against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (“CORETT” for its acronym in Spanish) is an initiative that originated in 2011 and comprises 9 countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.
CORETT emerged from the recognition by its member countries that crimes related to human trafficking and illicit trafficking of migrants represent multidimensional issues affecting citizen security and society. CORETT focuses its efforts on the prevention, detection, referral, prosecution of both crimes, and the comprehensive care of victims of human trafficking and individuals subject to the illicit trafficking of migrants.
CORETT and its member countries are committed to working collectively and across borders to strengthen joint efforts in combating human trafficking and the illicit trafficking of migrants.
